Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Sumner Katz can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Sumner Irving Katz

Sumner Irving Katz, 87, of Delray Beach, formerly of Brockton, was entered into rest August 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joanne (Engelson) Katz and his cherished children Marjorie Katz (Whitman), Elizabeth and Rodney Butler (Brockton), Judith and Craig Wiegand (Barnstable), Nancy and John Stone (Peabody), Suzi Katz (Orlando), and the late Donna Katz. Loving grandfather of Jenna Baker, Devin and Lisa Cooney, David and BreAnne Peardon, Emily and Christopher Jil, Naytan Katz-Aboudi, Daniel and Gilian Katz-Aboudi, Yosef Katz-Aboudi, Dalya Bronstein, and Maia Katz Slowinski.
He also leaves 9 Great Grandchildren. He was the loving brother-in-law of Ellen and Stephen Manganiello, and Stanley and Susan Engelson, along with many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Sumner was a past Commodore of the Braintree Yacht Club.
Graveside Service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 120 Canton Street, Sharon, MA. 12:45 PM Sunday, September 3, 2017 . Memorial observance will be held immediately following the service at the home of David and BreAnne Peardon. Three days following, observance will be at the home of Beth and Rodney Butler, 22 Reservoir Street, Brockton, MA. from 3 pm to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Mass General Hospital for Children. Checks should be made out to the MGH Pedi. Hem-Onc/Fund for Families in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, and sent to the Attention Dr. Howard J. Weinstein, Mass General Hospital for Children, 55 Fruit Street-Yawkey 8B, Boston, MA 02114.
