Obituary for Daniel Phillip Leventhal

Daniel “Danny” Phillip Leventhal died on October 5th surrounded by his loving family. Alcoholism was the disease that killed him, but never the essence of who he was. He was a kind and caring man with a huge heart. Danny was born in Miami Florida, and eventually spent his childhood between New York City and New Jersey.

Throughout his childhood, Danny had the privilege of attending elite prep schools and travelling all over the world with his family. He also enjoyed playing sports and became a football star in his community. He attended Schuylerville Preparatory High School in New York City where he made many friends. He also enjoyed the night life in New York City where he was very well known.

Danny married his wife Lesley in 1991, and over the years they welcomed 3 daughters into the world – Dianne, Heather, and Erin. He was a great father and enjoyed taking his daughters to their activities and spending quality time with them. He was known as the “fun” adult in the family and took all the kids in the family on frequent trips to the candy store and let them have more fun than most adults would allow. For example, his kids and niece invented an activity called “mattress sledding” that involved sliding down the stairs on a mattress. Where most adults would stop this right away, Danny just said “this will all be fun and games until somebody gets hurt.” He was right – it all was fun until one of his daughters hurt their arm but it was only a minor injury that does not take away from the childhood memories that were created from mattress sledding. It was always a fun time when he was around. While Danny’s kids had a lot of fun with him, he also instilled values in them such as the importance of education, work ethic, and being a good person.

He was an amazing chef and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He loved animals and throughout his life had several different pets. Danny truly loved his daughters and bragged about them to whoever would listen. His daughters brought 2 of their own daughters into the world – Lexy and Isabella. Danny was adored by his granddaughters and gave them the same fun times, laughter, and excitement he gave to his kids when they were growing up. He was also a devoted uncle to his niece Britany and a loyal friend to those who were lucky enough to have befriended him.

Danny is survived by his wife Lesley Leventhal, his daughters, Dianne and Heather, and his granddaughters, Lexy and Isabella. He is also survived by his brother Jeffrey Leventhal, his brother and sister- in- law Roy DiCicco and Robyn Sesser-DiCicco, his nieces Britany DiCicco and Vivian Soscia, as well as many other family members and friends.

Danny is predeceased by his daughter, Erin Leventhal and his parents Robert and Dianne Leventhal.
