Obituary for Stuart Elliot Krentcil
Stuart Elliot Krentcil, 69, of Tewksbury died after a battle with A.L.S.
A native of New York City, Krentcil was a proud Vietnam veteran, a renowned photographer, an innovative business and tech consultant, and a trusted peer counselor at the Bedford Veterans Hospital.
After joining the Armed Forces in 1968, Krentcil took his favorite Nikon camera from basic training to the front lines of Vietnam, photographing both combat and personal perspectives, and giving a compelling face to the many sides of modern warfare. He received a commendation from President Nixon for guiding his unit away from danger and bringing civilians and religious refugees to safety during combat missions.
Krentcil’s unique perspective extended to future photography projects with the Museum of Science and the New England Aquarium, while his engineering training and dynamic mind helped shaped business and tech projects in Boston, New York, San Francisco and even Padua, Italy. His work can be seen at the Whistler Museum, the Smithsonian archives, and soon in the military history archives at the College of William & Mary.
He is survived by his devoted wife Bonnie (Keshner) Krentcil; his beloved son Seth M. Krentcil & his partner Shannon Fitzgerald and daughter Faran A. Krentcil; his brother Martin & his wife Harriet Krentcil and sister Sandra Krentcil, along with the legions of veterans and Army Corps members who count him as a brother.
Services at Temple Emanuel 7 Haggetts Pond Road Andover on Sunday November 12 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Temple Emanuel Cemetery in Lawrence. Condolence calls may be made at his late residence following the burial until 8PM; continuing on Monday & Tuesday 2-4PM and 6-8PM with 7PM Minyan service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Temple Emanuel, Andover 01810; A.L.S. Association 315 Norwood Park South Norwood, MA 02060 or St. Jude’s Hospital 401 ST Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
