It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Michael “Mendel” Galer on March 29, 2018 at the age of 75 in Boca Raton, FL after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is formerly of Brookline, Newton, Colorado and California. Beloved husband of Eliana (Hathaway) Galer and loving father to Lisa Galer and her husband Gary Huggett, William Galer and his wife Mitzy whom he shared with Sarita Chocron, Dylan Galer whom he shared with Susan (Bonham) Galer, Darren Heilmann and his wife Suzy, Dean Heilman, Melissa Donnelly and Rob Donnelly children of wife Eliana Galer. He is survived by his precious grandchildren Matthew, Rachel, and Anna Huggett, Lanie and Jolie Galer, Taylor Dunn Griggs, Mallory Allen, Ally and Bob Palmer. Son of the late Maurice and Evelyn Galer of Brookline. Brother of Marilyn (Galer) Rubin and her husband Melvyn Rubin of Chestnut Hill and Lawrence Galer of FL. Also survived by his aunt Lillian Nadler of FL and many cousins in MA and FL as well as his niece Linda and husband Henry of Acton and nephew Noah Galer in FL. He was predeceased by by his nephew Mark Rubin and niece Allyson Galer. Lovingly survived by good friend and former spouse Carol Berry. He was a Realtor and business entrepreneur in the Boston area for many years before using his extensive marketing background in radio, television and film in Colorado and California. Michael’s next career path came after he earned his doctorate degree in Business and he began teaching at the university level with Northeastern University, Springfield College and various online universities as well as being Director of Academic Affairs. He also worked as a marketing consultant to RNet Health, Inc., where he focused on behavioral health issues, substance abuse treatment, education, relapse and recovery. Michael was an “expert panel member” for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, part of the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. Michael impacted many communities and lives throughout many communities - over the airwaves, in the classrooms, and in the halls of recovery - his life’s message of love, hope, healing, and recovery, along with his legacy of service and community work continue to live in the hearts of those he touched. He will be forever missed and loved by his family and friends. A private, family graveside service was held Friday, March 30 at Shara Tfilo Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
