CHMARA- Ellen (Bress)
August 31, 1937 - May 17, 2018 (80). Ellen Bress Chmara of Peabody, Massachusetts, only child of Bernice (Levine) and Samuel Bress of Troy, New York, loving wife of her surviving husband Frank Chmara for 57 years, devoted mother of Jed and Jessica Chmara of Marblehead, MA, Andrea and Adam York of Marblehead, MA, and Adam and Stephanie Chmara of Falls Church, VA. Ellen was the proud grandmother of Joshua and Jordan Chmara, Samuel and Tedd York, and Lauren and Joseph Chmara. Ellen graduated in 1958 from Syracuse University where she was the first woman president of a campus political party and attended Albany Law School where she was the first female editor of the yearbook. Ellen was a successful real estate broker of distinction for 30 years and set numerous records throughout her career. Ellen and her devoted husband Frank traveled extensively through six continents seeking out Jewish life and points of interest, each visit enriching their lives. They are lifetime members of Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody where Ellen was the President of Women’s League and Frank the Temple President. Ellen was also the President of Peabody Hadassah. Ellen was proud of her Jewish heritage and passed this joy to her children and grandchildren. She had an infectious sense of humor. Her adoring family will remember her sumptuous and joyful holiday meals and her wise loving advice. Services at Temple Ner Tamid 368 Lowell St. Peabody on Tuesday May 22 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery Peabody. Condolence calls may be made at her late residence following the interment until 3PM; continuing from 6:30-9PM; on Wednesday 6:30-9PM; and Thursday 12-2PM and 6:30-9PM. Minyan at 6:30PM each day. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Temple Ner Tamid 368 Lowell St. Peabody, MA 01960.
