Obituary for Amy Brass (Weidenfeld)

BRASS, Amy (Weidenfeld)

97, of Peabody, MA, formerly of Newton, MA and Lake Worth, FL, entered eternal rest on December 31, 2022. Devoted wife of the late Murray Brass. Beloved mother of Sandra Brass, the late Stephen & his surviving wife Sherry Brass, and the late Daniel Brass. Cherished grandmother of Liza & her husband Don Goss and Doni & his wife Karin Brass. Adored great-grandmother of Maya, Mandy, & Jack Goss and Amalia Brass. Born on May 5, 1925 to David and Ida (Tobias) Weidenfeld, Amy grew up in Dorchester, MA. Amy was predeceased by her much loved siblings and their spouses: Morris & his wife Arlene Weidenfeld, Beatrice & her husband Emanuel Newman and Hilda & her husband Nathan Fisher. Also loved by her in-laws: Dorothy & the late Arthur Litwack and the late Mildred & Irving Brem. Family was always most important to Amy and she greatly adored her many nieces and nephews. Amy, along with her famous apple pie and brownies, will surely be missed at family gatherings.

Amy had a heart of gold. At the age of sixteen, her world got turned upside down when her father died unexpectedly. Amy was left to help care/raise her younger sister, as their mother was not in good health. At the age of nineteen, Amy married the love of her life, Murray. They immediately had three children, within three years, but Amy didn’t bat an eyelash. She came from an era where her mother’s advice was “just make sure you are showered and have dinner on the table by the time your husband arrives home from work!” Amy was a natural at being a mother and a wife but didn’t just sit around waiting for her husband. When she became tired of schlepping her three children and the groceries home from the store…she jumped in her husband’s car and made him teach her how to drive. Amy was a caretaker by nature and went to college to become a nurse after her children were grown. She worked in many Boston hospitals and volunteered at Hospice in Lake Worth, FL. After retiring to Florida, Amy spent her free time golfing, needle-pointing, volunteering, fundraising for Hospice, and doing crossword puzzles. Amy never stopped learning and in her 80s taught herself how to balance a check book and use a computer. In her 90s, she was frequently writing messages on Facebook or accidentally making FaceTime calls. Life’s simple pleasures made Amy the happiest…like dinner with her family or hugs from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Chapel of Sharon Memorial Park 40 Dedham Street, Sharon on Tuesday January 3 at 1:30 PM.
