Obituary for Anthony N. Godine

Anthony Nathan Godine, 70, of Sherborn Massachusetts, passed away on August 5th , after a long battle with cancer . Anthony was born on February 5, 1953, to Dr. Maurice D. and Mrs. Marjorie K. Godine in Hampstead, Quebec, Canada, a Montreal suburb. He attended McGill University in 1975, he continued his studies in economics at Iowa State University and was awarded a Master of Science degree in 1977. After graduation, Anthony worked at the Chicago Board of Trade as a futures market analyst, and subsequent employment included positions of increasing responsibility at General Foods Corporation, Thompson Financial, and Tabb Group, where he delivered capital markets research to Wall Street and commodity futures trading firms. In each endeavor, he excelled due to his quick wit and superior intellect.

Anthony was a dedicated husband to Robin Fishman Godine, whom he married on June 23, 1996, and was father to two sons, Harry and Aaron Godine. He and Robin were life partners who shared a dry sense of humor, a genuine and independent spirit, and a kind and caring nature. He cherished his boys and spared no time or expense to support and steer them in the right direction at every turn. He was also a dear friend to those who were fortunate to share his life’s adventures.

Anthony had many interests, chief among them were music and skiing. During graduate school, he formed the Iowa Blues Boys, and the band delighted audiences on campus and in neighborhood venues. He was a Blues Man first and he loved the music of Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Little Walter, and Bob Dylan. Anthony was an avid skier, a sport he enjoyed at resorts in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Canadian Rockies, and “The White Ring” of the Omeshorn in Lech-Zurs, Austria. His days were filled with skiing and his nights with singing and strumming guitar.

Anthony was principled and had a soft heart. He loved birds and other animals, and he was true to his friends, always putting them first as if they were blood relations. He will be missed by family and friends alike.

Shiva will take place on Thursday, August 10th from 4:00 PM -8:00 PM at the family home. Anthony was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife, Robin, and their sons, Harry and Aaron. He is survived also by an older sister, Julia Thomas of Jensen Beach, FL.
