Obituary for Carol Collins (Simon)

Carol Simon Collins, of Amherst, MA and formerly of Marblehead, died on April 19. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 2, 1931, and was the youngest and adored child of William and Bea Simon.

Carol grew up in Syracuse, and briefly attended Lycoming College. She married David Collins in 1952, and they embarked on a life of raising four children and moving to Ohio and upstate New York before settling in Marblehead in 1965.

Carol devoted her life to her family and volunteer activities. Most notably, she worked tirelessly for the disabled, inspired by her son, Danny, who had Down’s Syndrome. She also worked for fair housing on the North Shore through the 60’s and 70’s. More recently, she volunteered at more than 15 Pan Mass Challenges, with her daughter-in-law Karen, to support cancer research. Carol was a two-time cancer survivor.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband David, son Daniel, and siblings Raymond, Jean, and Betty.

She is survived by her children, Bea (and Bob) Grossman, Scott Collins and Tucker Bryant, and Bill Collins and Karen Dzendolet, plus many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 24 at 11:00 AM at the Temple Sinai Cemetery 50 Buxton Road (off Route 114), Danvers, MA.
