Obituary for Dorothea Z. Lack

Dorothea Z. Lack, PhD

Dorothea Lack died on August 14, 2023 in San Francisco, her beloved city.

Dorothea was raised in Revere Massachusetts and graduated from Revere High School in 1957 where she was awarded the English medal. While in high school she wrote for the Revere Journal. Her classmates at RHS probably remember her Teen Tidbits gossip column, which she created.

She always excelled academically. After high school she attended the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene/Tufts University. Several years later, she added a bachelors degree from Boston University to her resume; and ultimately earned a PhD from Syracuse University in Clinical Psychology.

Dorothea spent most of her professional career in private practice in San Francisco. But earlier she was a pioneer in pain management and established an early pain clinic at a Binghamton, New York hospital. In SF, she also taught psychology to medical students.

Dorothea loved her family and was filled with joy and pride after visiting her great-grandfather’s grave on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. She loved music and often attended performances by the San Francisco Symphony. She proudly showed off her selfie with Pinchas Zuckerman!

“But fate ordains that dearest friends must part.” Edward Young circa 17c.
