Obituary for Edward Scott Corwin
CORWIN, Edward S. 58, of Malden, entered eternal rest January 27, 2019. Dear son of the late Dorothy D. (Alpert) & Alvin H. Corwin. Beloved father of Alison H. Corwin and Seth Corwin. Loving brother of Lori & her husband Daniel McBride. Adored uncle of Marni McBride. Former spouse and friend of Judith (Apkin) Corwin. Ed is also survived by his aunt, many cousins and numerous friends from all walks of life.
Ed’s passions in life were hockey and drum & bugle corps.
As a young adult, Ed was a performing member of the 27th Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps and the North Star Drum & Bugle Corps, touring the country with both groups. He was also a member of the Malden High School Marching Band. As an adult, Ed was an instructor for numerous drum corps, high school marching bands and color guards and was an adjudicator for the Massachusetts Judges Association, CT Musical Art Conference, USSBA, Drum Corps Midwest and Drum Corps International. Ed was also a parent volunteer for the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps (Toledo, OH) when his daughter Ali was a performing member of the group. Lastly, Ed was the Advertising Sales Manager for Drum Corps World from 1999-2004.
Ed fell in love with hockey at a young age, becoming a stick boy for the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association (WHA)(1972-1974) and was a part of their championship team in their inaugural season. He was also a member of the Malden High School Hockey Team (Class of 1978). Ed went on to become a broadcaster for Northeastern University (1979) and was later a broadcaster for the Roanoke Valley Rebels of the East Coast Hockey League (1990-1991); the Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League (1991-1992); the Muskegon Fury of the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL)(1994-1995); and the Madison Monsters of the CoHL and United Hockey League (UHL)(1995-1999). Ed was also a hockey referee for 20 years and, later in life, could be spotted around the rink with his son Seth, supporting him and his teammates with everything hockey related.
In the mid-1980s, Ed was a radio news producer/reporter at Magic 106.7 .
Services at the Goldman Funeral Chapel, 174 Ferry Street (off Route 60), MALDEN on Wednesday, January 30 at 11:00 AM. Interment at Ezrath Israel Cemetery, 50 Buxton Road, Danvers.
Condolence calls may be made at the home of Lori & Daniel McBride, 10 Wilson Street, Wilmington following the interment Wednesday until 9PM, Thursday 2-5 & 6-9PM, Friday 1-4PM, and Sunday 12-6PM. Minyan will be held on Wednesday (7:00 pm), Thursday (7:00 pm), Friday (2:30 pm) and Sunday (3:00 pm).
