Obituary for Harvey Lester Blumsack

Harvey L. Blumsack, born in Boston, MA, on August 31, 1937, died on April 20, 2021, in Boiling Springs, SC, at the home of his long-time friend, Tammy Dame. The cause was encephalopathy resulting from treatment for lymphoma, according to his sister, Ellen Rodman. Mr. Blumsack was 83.

Mr. Blumsack was a graduate of Lowell Technological Institute (now part of the University of Massachusetts Lowell) and worked as an electronics engineer with an expertise in underwater fiber optics cable, a job that took him around the world. A great traveler, he enjoyed experiencing the culture and cuisines of every country he visited. He was a first lieutenant in the Air Force and, beginning in childhood, was an avid ham radio operator. As an adult Mr. Blumsack enjoyed square dancing and jazz.

In addition to Dr. Rodman, her husband, William Rodman, and Ms. Dame, Mr. Blumsack is survived by his niece Pamela Rodman, great niece Melissa Rodman, former wife, Phyllis Blumsack, son Eric Blumsack and his wife Debbie Blumsack, daughter Julie Barth and her husband Jake Barth, and grandchildren Ilana Blumsack, Samantha Barth and Garrett Barth. His nephew Keith Rodman predeceased him. Mr. Blumsack will be buried in Peabody, MA.
