Obituary for Leonard Safran

Leonard Safran, 100, of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Andover, entered eternal rest on February 19, 2021.

Leonard was born and raised in Haverhill, and he served honorably in the Army during World War II. Upon returning from the Army, he moved to Andover, where he resided until moving to Baltimore in 2016. He had a long career as an engineer in the defense contracting industry and was awarded 4 patents while working for NASA in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. He was also a member of the IEEE Electrical Engineer Society, the Jewish War Veterans, the American Legion, Chabad of Merrimack Valley, a Master Mason of the St. Mark’s Lodge in Newburyport, Chabad of Merrimack Valley, and a former member of Temple Emanuel, Andover.

He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara (Lebowitz); beloved father of Neil & his wife Pamela Safran and Margery & her husband Raphael Waldman; dear brother of the late Benjamin Safran and Hilda Diamond; adored grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
