Obituary for Margot Segall Blank

We are sad to share news of the death of Dr. Margot Segall Blank, at the age of 93. Dr. Blank will be missed by her sons, Dan and Steve, Rebecca Slisz (Steve’s wife), and grandchildren Jordan and Chelsea Blank, and Brittany, Josh and Amber Marcus-Blank, her former daughter-in-law Dr. Bess Marcus, and many others her life had touched.

Margot was born in Berlin and was an aspiring gymnast. She experienced Kristallnacht and was banned from representing Germany at an international competition before fleeing with her parents to Sydney, Australia, in 1939. There, she immersed herself in her studies, eventually earning her M.D., while participating actively in the Zionist youth movement and Israeli folk dancing. Later moves brought her to England, Israel, South Africa, and back to Australia, before immigrating to the U.S. with her late husband John in the 1950s. They raised their family in New York and Brookline, where she practiced Pediatrics and then Endocrinology at many major hospitals, along with teaching as a Fellow at Harvard Medical School. She never lost her passion for medicine or for treating people – the more complex the issue, the more she engaged.
In addition to her family and medicine, Margot found joy in her lifelong passions for classical music, visual arts (especially The Impressionists), outdoor activities (especially swimming and skiing) and international travel. And she would never pass up a chance to join an Israeli folk dance.
Margot’s energy, purposeful defiance of convention, and youthful spirit will be missed as we remember her.
Donations in Dr. Blank's memory can be made to Jewish Family & Children's Service.
May the name Dr. Margot Segall Blank be an enduring blessing. Zichrona livracha.
