Obituary for Michelle S. Langmead (Burak)

Langmead, Michelle S. (Burak)

Age 57, of Stoughton, MA, entered eternal rest on April 12th after a courageous 10-year battle with scleroderma, and more recently, cancer. Despite her illnesses and the challenges they caused, Michelle always showed a positive outlook and lived her life to the fullest. Her “reason to be” was always her husband, Andrew and her daughters, Sam and Abbie. She cherished quality time and phone calls with her family. Additional joy came into her life with the adoption of “her girls” four chickens who she lovingly cared for.

Born and raised in Canton, MA, Michelle was a graduate of Canton High School and Clark University in Worcester. Michelle majored in Psychology and minored in Teaching and Jewish Studies. Her career started working with special needs students in the Randolph Public Schools system. Always drawn to her love of teaching, Michelle ran children’s programming at the Jewish Community Center in Sharon. Additionally, during her children’s summer breaks, Michelle was known as “The Nature Lady” at Camp Westwood in Stoughton. There she developed a popular cooking program, sharing her renowned talents in the kitchen with her campers.

Michelle’s longest lasting work came from combining education and her Jewish faith, spending decades teaching at her family synagogue, B’nai Tikvah. Michelle was an active participant in her community, and her and Andrew’s faith were the basis of many cherished friendships. Often, Michelle could often be found preparing meals in the synagogue kitchen, helping her friends celebrate holidays and personal festivities. She began as a Hebrew School teacher and eventually became the Religious School Director. Over the years, Michelle taught hundreds of students to be proud of their Jewish culture and customs.

Michelle valued her family above all else. Michelle married her beloved husband, Andrew, in 1992, first living in Walpole, then Sharon. They eventually settled in Stoughton, MA, where they raised their two incredible children. She cherished all her family time, from simple family dinners to trips to NYC attending Broadway musicals.

Michelle was the cherished wife of Andrew Langmead and the devoted mother to Samantha and Abbie. Daughter of Harriet Burak and the late Al Burak, and daughter in law of Judy and Jim Langmead. Beloved sister of the late Stacey Megalaitis and the late Michael Burak. Sister-in-law of Mark Megalaitis, Eric Langmead, Greta Langmead, Mark Langmead, Sarah Langmead and her husband Ricardo Alves, Joshua Langmead and his wife Meredith, Allyson Hamilton and her husband Peter, Matthew Langmead and his wife Katoe, Daniel Langmead and his wife Ashley, Desiree, David, Alicia and Tiffany Langmead, Brian Silcot, Jakeline Gonzales and Miguel Zayas of blessed memory. On Michelle’s side of the family, Michelle leaves behind one niece and two nephews. Michelle had countless nieces and nephews on the Langmead side (honestly countless). They have tried to count them; but they keep moving.

Services at B’nai Tikvah 1301 Washington St, Canton on Tuesday, April 16, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. A meal of consolation will follow at B’nai Tikvah. Shiva will be at Andrew Langmead's home on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, and at Harriet Burak's home on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. After discovering her Greek-Jewish Heritage through 23&Me, Michelle hoped to share her culture with her fellow congregants and students. Donations in Michelle’ memory may be made through the “Greek Jewish Heritage Program Fund” at B’nai Tikvah 1301 Washington Street Canton, MA 02021.
