Obituary for Mildred Stein (Corn)
Mildred (Corn) Stein, 90, of Naples, FL & West Yarmouth, MA, formerly of Salem, NH & Lawrence, MA, Entered Eternal Rest on January 28, 2023.
Mildred was born in Willimantic, CT, daughter of the late Joseph & Dora Corn. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University (formerly New Britain Teachers College) and taught in the Waterbury, CT, West Hartford, CT and the Melrose schools. After retiring from teaching, she first became a full-time parent and then a successful real estate broker. A life-long learner, she became a Bat Mitzvah in her late 70s. In her free time, Millie played a fierce game of mahjong, enjoyed golf and doubles tennis, and volunteered at local museums. She also loved the opera and live theater, domestic and foreign travel, summers on Cape Cod, socializing with a wide circle of friends and especially, time spent with her grandchildren. She exulted in every win by her beloved Boston Red Sox, and in later years savored weekday evenings watching Jeopardy.
She was the devoted wife of Ralph Stein for almost 62 years; beloved mother of Russell & his wife Rebecca Stein of Newton, MA, and of Mark & his wife Rosa Hallowell of Concord, MA; adored grandmother of Jared (and Mara), Daniel (and Alexandra), Elizah (and Conrad), Samuel, and Lucia; and dear sister of the late Albert and Irving Corn.
Services will be at the Children of Abraham Cemetery 260 Beacon Street, Lawrence on Wednesday February 1 at 11:00 AM. Condolence calls may be made at the home of Russell and Rebecca Stein, 49 Woodchester Drive, Newton, MA on February 1, from 6 pm until 9 pm (with a minyan at 7 pm), and at the home of Mark Stein and Rosa Hallowell, 19 Sudbury Road, Concord, MA on February 2, from 6 pm until 9 pm (with a minyan at 7 pm). In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Congregation Beth Tikvah, 1459 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples, FL 34109 or Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601.
