Obituary for Morris H. Rapoport

Morris Rapoport (Uncle Mossy), a World War II veteran, retired attorney, and esteemed member of the community, passed away on September 17, 2023, in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He was born on December 25, 1922, in Ostrog, Poland. Morris was a remarkable individual who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Morris served in the US Navy from 1941 to 1945, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Pacific. His dedication and commitment to his country were evident throughout his military service. He bravely fought for the freedoms we cherish today.

Beyond his military career, Morris had a passion for tennis. In his younger years, he was a junior champion at the state level and continued to play throughout his life. He generously shared his love for the sport by volunteering as a tennis instructor for the Marblehead High School Tennis team. Additionally, in the 1990s, Morris provided pro-bono legal services for Soviet Jews settling on the North Shore, showcasing his kindness and dedication to helping others.

He was predeceased by his parents Annie and Phillip Rapoport, and siblings, Jean Sherman, Rachel Winston, and Rebecca (Betty) Tassel. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, along with many extraordinary caregivers who cared for him toward the end of his life.

A graveside service to honor Morris Rapoport's life will be held at Pride of Lynn Cemetery, Lake Shore Rd, Lynn, MA, on September 20, 2023, at 2:30 PM.

Morris Rapoport leaves behind a legacy of bravery, compassion, and dedication. His contributions to his country and community will always be remembered. May his soul find eternal peace.
