BRASS, Stephen M.
74, of Peabody formerly of Lynnfield and Newton. Entered Eternal Rest October 18, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Sherry (Levenson) Brass. Cherished father of Liza & her husband Don Goss and Doni & his wife Karin Brass. Adored Zayde of Maya, Mandy & Jack Goss and Amalia Brass. Devoted son of Amy (Weidenfeld) Brass & the late Murray Brass. Dear brother of Sandra Brass and the late Daniel Brass. Brother-in-law of Joshua & Susan Levenson.
Steve grew up in Newton where he graduated Newton South High School. He continued his education at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst joining ΑΕΠ and receiving a bachelor’s degree in business and master’s in education. At UMass he met the love of his life, Sherry and they shared 51 years of marriage together. Steve started his career as a teacher at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. He and Sherry bought their first home in Peabody, Massachusetts in 1974 and became fully emerged in the community, even joining Temple Ner Tamid. During this time, they made lifelong friends, sharing dinners, special occasions and trips with them. These friends became like family that he and Sherry relied on and vice-versa. Steve started his own family and was truly born to be a father, producing two of the greatest children - Liza and Doni. He was a dream dad…taking the kids camping, on adventures, reading books, telling stories, and always being there for a laugh or a hug!
In 1984, Steve and Sherry opened their own business specializing in baby and kid’s furniture. They ultimately moved their family to Lynnfield, Massachusetts and after years in business, Steve returned to his true passion…teaching at Classical High School in Lynn. Another of Steve’s true passions was sailing. After getting his captain’s license, he and Sherry bought a sailboat with their dear friends, spending endless time on the ocean with family and other friends. As time went on, both of Steve’s children married and he became lucky enough to welcome two amazing in-laws into his life…Don and Karin.
In 2007, Steve became a grandfather for the first time when Maya was born. It was apparent from the start that being a grandfather made him the happiest he had ever been. Steve was blessed to have three more grandchildren - Mandy, Jack and Amalia. He had endless jokes, cuddles and adventures with his grandchildren which kept him going throughout his battle with cancer. In fact, Steve would not stop fighting until he was able to meet his precious Amalia.
Steve had a lust for life that was felt by all who knew him. His deepest joy could always be found on the open water with wind in his sails and friends/family by his side. May he always have fair winds and following seas!
