Obituary for Zachary Benjamin Shwartz

Zachary Shwartz, of Boston, entered into rest on August 27, 2020 at the age of 26. Devoted and loving son of Lisa Kipnis Shwartz and the late Dr. Matthew Shwartz. Devoted grandson of Sheila and the late Maurice Kipnis and Shirley and the late Howard Shwartz. Loving brother to Jared and Alexandra Shwartz, Rachel Shwartz Tye and Jordan Tye. Adored uncle of Remi and Cooper Shwartz. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and friends who Zachary always considered family. Zachary will be sorely missed by his treasured dogs Brady and Charlie.

Born in Boston and raised in Peabody, Zachary graduated from Epstein Hillel School in 2008 and Gann Academy in 2012. Zachary earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management, Accounting and Finance from Boston University in 2016. He most recently worked at Akelius Residential Property as a Transactions and Valuations Analyst.

Zachary was a natural leader and true mensch in his community. He was an engaged member of the Board of Directors at Epstein Hillel School, where he was the first young alumnus nominated and elected as a member. Zachary was one of the first recipients of the Adam Madorsky Alumni Social Justice Award for his work at Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home and Special Olympics. He was an adored and admired Head Coach through Special Olympics, where he led teams of athletes in basketball, softball, soccer and track. He was recognized as volunteer of the year for his dedication. Zachary loved all Boston sports and never hesitated to travel around the country for opening days, World Series, Superbowls and more. His enduring acts of kindness will continue to live on in all whose lives he touched.

Shortly before his death, Zach was volunteering on the Epstein Hillel School Tuition Task Force, a group of staff, parents, and alumni working together to make a Jewish Day School education affordable for all on the North Shore. A scholarship fund has been established in his memory to continue his work of making Hillel affordable and accessible to all. Due to covid-19, the burial will be private. A public memorial will be planned at a future date. Please call the family in advance for shiva visitation during the week.
